Road and Trail Closures in Great Smoky Mountains National Park Due to Fire

A wildland fire known as the Flint Gap Fire has led to road, trail, and campsite closures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. The fire, estimated to be about 10 acres, is located near Hannah Mountain and was reported on August 26. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and no structures are currently threatened. The Tennessee National Guard has provided aviation support with bucket drops on the fire. Additional resources, including a Type 3 Incident Commander, three suppression modules, and a Type 3 Helicopter, have been scheduled to arrive in the park to assist with controlling the fire. The closures in the park include backcountry campsites, Parson Branch Road, Rabbit Creek Trail, and Hannah Mountain Trail. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation also assisted park officials with a flyover to help with fire mapping and monitoring. Park officials continue to work on controlling the fire and ensuring the safety of visitors to the park.
