Poland Set to Boost Defense Spending to Record Levels in 2025

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced that the 2025 state budget will include a record-high spending on defense, with 186 billion zlotys ($48.5 billion) allocated for increasing national security. This decision comes amid heightened security concerns due to Poland’s proximity to war-torn Ukraine. The defense spending is expected to account for over 4% of Poland’s GDP, making it a leader in NATO and EU defense expenditures. Deputy Defense Minister Stanisław Wziątek stated that defense spending in 2025 will reach 4.7% of GDP. Poland’s strong support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s invasion has led to increased military equipment purchases, including from the U.S. and South Korea. Despite the significant defense expenditure, the Polish government remains committed to supporting economic growth, with a projected growth rate of 3.9% in 2025. The announcement of the budget highlights Poland’s dedication to national security and its continued efforts to enhance defense capabilities in the face of evolving security challenges in the region.
