A 3,500-year-old jar was accidentally shattered by a four-year-old boy at the Hecht Museum in northern Israel, dating back to the Bronze Age. The boy was curious about its contents and caused it to fall and break. The museum has invited the family back for a guided tour to “sweeten” their experience. The museum’s director stated that intentional damage to artifacts is treated severely but this case was accidental. The museum is working with a conservation specialist to repair the jar, which would have been used for storing local goods like wine and olive oil. Despite the incident, the museum will continue to display certain artifacts without glass protection to provide a unique experience.
