Ukraine reports capturing 100 settlements in Kursk and capturing nearly 600 Russian service personnel amid ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict

Ukraine has made significant progress in its incursion into the Kursk region, capturing almost 600 Russian servicemen and 100 settlements, according to the country’s top general, Oleksandr Syrskyi. The operation in Kursk has allowed Ukraine to divert Russian forces from other areas, primarily the south. In addition, Ukraine has used western-supplied F-16 jets to repel air attacks by Russia.

The International Atomic Energy Agency chief, Rafael Grossi, has visited the Kursk nuclear power plant, expressing concern over the risk of a nuclear incident due to the plant’s proximity to the fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces. Grossi stressed the importance of not attacking nuclear power plants.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that Ukraine has tested its first domestically-produced ballistic missile and has plans to present a peace plan to US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Zelenskiy also highlighted the importance of a strong showing at the Paris Paralympics, stating that previous medal hauls have raised acceptance for disabled individuals in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the White House condemned a Russian missile attack that injured journalists and killed a safety adviser for Reuters. The attack targeted a hotel in Ukraine, adding to the escalating violence in the region. Air raid sirens have been heard near the Kursk nuclear plant, raising concerns about the safety of the facility amidst the ongoing conflict.
