Canadian police have issued a warning to Inderjeet Singh Gosal, an aide to the late Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, about an increased threat to his life. Nijjar was assassinated in British Columbia last year, and there are suspicions of possible Indian government involvement in the murder. Gosal, who is committed to liberating Punjab from India, was given a “duty to warn” notice by police in Ontario, in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. However, neither the RCMP nor Ontario police have commented on the situation, and Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc’s office declined to provide a statement. Gosal’s warning comes in the wake of an FBI investigation into a recent drive-by shooting targeting a California activist linked to Nijjar, further highlighting tensions between Sikh separatists and India. The Indian government accuses Canada of harboring separatists seeking to establish a homeland called Khalistan in Punjab, India. Gosal remains steadfast in his commitment to the cause of liberating Punjab, despite the threats to his life. The FBI previously thwarted an assassination attempt against pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, further underscoring the ongoing friction between Sikh separatists and Indian authorities.
