ISIL takes credit for knife attack in Solingen, Germany | Crime Report

On Friday evening, a knife attack in Solingen, Germany, carried out by a perpetrator who has yet to be identified, killed three people and injured eight others. ISIL (ISIS) claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the perpetrator targeted Christians as an act of revenge for Muslims in Palestine. Authorities are investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested following the attack based on information provided by witnesses who overheard his conversation discussing intentions that aligned with the events that unfolded. Police raided a home for asylum seekers in the city center based on tips received. The authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant until the perpetrator is found.
Germany’s Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser, visited Solingen on Saturday evening and pledged government support for the city and its people in the aftermath of the attack. While the attack has been described as an act of terror against the security and freedom of the country, it has not been officially classified as a terrorist attack.
ISIL faced a territorial defeat in 2017, losing all areas it controlled in Iraq and Syria, but the group continues to claim responsibility for attacks. In Solingen, authorities have cancelled the remainder of the Festival of Diversity, which was celebrating the city’s 650th anniversary. Churches in Solingen are offering support for prayer and emergency care following the tragic incident.
