Vice President Kamala Harris raised a total of $540 million for her presidential campaign since launching it, with $82 million coming in during the Democratic National Convention. The hour following her convention speech was the best fundraising hour of the campaign, with one-third of donations from first-time donors, two-thirds of whom were women. Teachers and nurses were common donor occupations.
The $540 million raised in one month after President Joe Biden dropped out of the election is a record, including funds from joint fundraising committees. Harris outpaced former President Donald Trump in July fundraising, with $204 million compared to his $48 million.
Harris has surpassed Trump in polling in battleground states since launching her campaign, though the race remains close. The first debate between Harris and Trump is scheduled for September. The momentum and resources from the fundraising are being used to further the campaign’s efforts as they head into Labor Day.
Overall, Harris has seen a surge in donations and support, with a significant amount coming from first-time donors and women. The campaign is using the funds to build on their momentum and compete effectively with Trump and his allies.
