Commanders replace memorial honoring Sean Taylor with statue

The Washington Commanders have announced that they will be replacing a memorial at their Landover, Maryland stadium with a statue honoring former Washington safety Sean Taylor. The decision was made after the organization felt that the previous installation did not adequately honor Taylor, one of the franchise’s most iconic players. The team plans to work with Taylor’s family, including his daughter Jackie Taylor, to unveil a statue that will properly celebrate his legacy and impact on the organization, fanbase, and community. Jackie Taylor expressed excitement and gratitude for the team’s commitment to keeping her father’s legacy alive. Sean Taylor, who was killed in 2007, will be the first player to be memorialized with a statue by the Commanders. His No. 21 jersey was retired in 2022, making him only the third player in franchise history to receive this honor. Before his tragic death, Taylor had a promising career as a two-time Pro Bowl selection and the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. The Commanders are dedicated to honoring their legends in a first-class manner and look forward to sharing more details about the statue in the future.
