Hamas calls for outrage and backlash following Quran burning by Israeli soldiers in ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict

Videos obtained by Al Jazeera have revealed shocking footage of Israeli forces bombing mosques and desecrating copies of the Quran in Gaza. Hamas has condemned these actions, calling for Arab and Muslim countries to express outrage against the Israeli forces for their extremist behavior. The Palestinian group criticized the destruction of mosques and burning of Quran copies as acts of hate and fascism.

The Gaza Government Media Office reported that Israel has destroyed 610 mosques and three churches in the region over the past 10 months. In response, Hamas has urged the international community to defend Muslim and Christian holy sites in Palestine and stop what they describe as a “war of extermination” against Gaza.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations has also condemned the desecration of Quran copies and mosque attacks, stating that Israel’s actions constitute a war on Islam itself. The group has called on US President Joe Biden to denounce Israeli abuses and halt weapons transfers to Israel.

Despite the attacks, Muslim Palestinians in Gaza have continued to hold communal prayers next to the ruins of destroyed mosques. However, worshippers have been targeted by Israeli bombardment during prayer gatherings, leading to casualties. The Israeli army has been accused of repeatedly violating Muslim holy sites, with incidents including soldiers reciting Jewish prayers in a mosque they had raided in the West Bank.

The situation in Gaza remains dire, with numerous casualties reported due to Israeli attacks on mosques and civilians. The international community is being urged to take action to protect religious sites and end the violence in the region.
