Egypt refused Israel’s request to stay in the Philadelphi Corridor, violating agreements. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed Israel supported a bridging proposal, which Hamas refuted. Biden administration’s continuous support for Netanyahu, despite his reported interference in talks, has left many analysts perplexed. Biden has criticized Netanyahu in the past but continues to back his government without imposing any consequences for obstructing the ceasefire. The ongoing failure to hold Israel accountable has raised questions about US accountability over Gaza’s destruction. Analysts believe negotiations are futile due to the vast gap between Israel’s demands and Hamas’ requests. The purpose appears to be a PR move for the Biden administration without any real progress towards a ceasefire.
