Former Washington Commanders draft pick Saahdiq Charles, who also played for the Tennessee Titans, announced his retirement from the NFL at the age of 25. Charles, a fourth-round pick in the 2020 draft, spent four seasons with Washington before joining the Titans.
After being placed on the reserve/retired list by the Titans, Charles cited personal reasons for his decision to retire. He had missed practices which were excused, leading to his retirement just one day after being listed as the starting right guard.
Charles had a successful collegiate career at LSU, where he was a member of the 2019 national championship team. In his time with Washington, injuries plagued Charles, limiting his playing time despite high expectations for him to replace Trent Williams at left tackle. The Commanders ultimately moved him to guard, where he played in 35 games with 18 starts over four seasons.
Injuries hindered Charles’s career with Washington, but he had a career-high 10 starts in the 2023 season. Charles signed with the Titans in March of that year, but ultimately decided to retire from the NFL.
This retirement marks the end of a promising career for Saahdiq Charles, who showed flashes of talent during his time in the league.
