Walz was portrayed as a contrast to the Republican vice-presidential candidate, JD Vance, who was criticized by Harris and Walz for his elite and Silicon Valley connections. Vance countered the Democratic rally with one of his own in Philadelphia, setting the stage for a contentious campaign season.
Despite Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s energizing introduction at the rally, he did not end up being chosen as Harris’ running mate. The large crowd at the event, the largest for the Harris campaign so far, was seen as a significant demonstration of enthusiasm for the ticket. The Biden campaign also took to social media to show the stark contrast in crowd sizes between Harris’ rally and Trump’s previous event at the same venue.
As the campaign season progresses, the battle between the Democratic and Republican tickets, as well as the contrasting backgrounds of the candidates, is expected to intensify. The energy and excitement generated by Harris and Walz’s campaign are seen as essential in securing crucial battleground states like Pennsylvania in the upcoming election.
