Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump announced that he will be interviewed by Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on Monday night. This news comes shortly after Democratic nominee Kamala Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. Additionally, Musk is under scrutiny for a political action committee he created in support of Trump, which allegedly did not fulfill promises to help users register to vote.
The interview between Trump and Musk is set to take place as the former president continues to use his social media platform, Truth Social, for his messages. This move follows the ban of Trump’s Twitter account after he was accused of inciting the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Musk, who now owns the social media company X, previously known as Twitter, lifted the ban after purchasing the platform for $44 billion.
Investigations into Musk’s America PAC, which supported Trump’s candidacy, are currently underway by officials in North Carolina and Michigan. Both states are probing allegations that the PAC collected personal data from users but failed to assist with voter registration as promised. Musk’s involvement with Trump and his political activities is being closely monitored as the 2024 presidential race heats up.
CNBC has reached out to Musk for comment on the ongoing investigations surrounding the America PAC. Musk’s connections to Trump and his political initiatives are expected to be a focal point of the upcoming interview with the former president.
