Washington Commanders super fan Melba Jacobson recently celebrated her 100th birthday, making her a beloved figure among players and fans alike. Having moved to D.C. from Texas in 1941, Jacobson has been a devoted fan of the team, attending every training camp since 2014, except during the COVID-19 years. She has met numerous players over the years, including former quarterback Joe Theismann, who fulfilled a promise by wishing her a happy 100th birthday.
Attending a celebration thrown by her family, Jacobson was surrounded by loved ones from various states, showcasing the impact she has had on those around her. With four children, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, Jacobson credits her longevity to simply enjoying life.
Her son Jay expressed that his mother has always been treated royally by the team and has been a familiar face at training camps. Notable moments include a picture with Chase Young on her 99th birthday, where he held up his No. 99 jersey next to her “younger” jersey.
As she prepares for another training camp, Jacobson’s dedication to the team and her infectious spirit continue to inspire those around her. Described as the best by her son, Jacobson’s positivity and love for life have undoubtedly played a role in her reaching the incredible milestone of 100 years old.
