Jared James Dicus, a 23-year-old man from Texas, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for brutally murdering his newlywed wife, Anggy Diaz, last year. The couple had gotten married in October 2022. Dicus pleaded guilty to the crime, which involved decapitating and dismembering his wife at a cabin on his parents’ property near Magnolia.
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene by Dicus’ parents, who reported a death on their property. When deputies arrived, they found Diaz dead, decapitated, and dismembered. Dicus admitted to killing his wife and was arrested on a murder charge.
Despite potential mental health issues raised during the pre-trial phase, Dicus was deemed competent to stand trial. He will not be eligible for parole until 2043 due to the aggravated nature of the offense. Prosecutors emphasized their commitment to seeking justice for victims of domestic violence and sending a message to perpetrators.
Waller County Criminal District Attorney Sean Whittmore stated that they do not tolerate domestic violence and that heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered. The case highlights the seriousness with which the justice system in Waller County addresses domestic violence.
