Former President Donald Trump’s campaign attorney Jenna Ellis has agreed to cooperate with Arizona prosecutors in exchange for charges being dropped in a fake electors case. Ellis, who previously pleaded not guilty to fraud, forgery, and conspiracy charges in Arizona, will provide truthful information and testify honestly in court proceedings. This cooperation agreement comes after Ellis pleaded guilty in Georgia to one felony count of aiding and abetting false statements.
The charges against Ellis and 17 others in Arizona stem from false claims of widespread election fraud and attempts to change the outcome of the election. Ellis had encouraged then-Vice President Mike Pence to accept Arizona’s fake elector votes. Prosecutors allege that Ellis, Rudy Giuliani, and others made false claims during a meeting at the Arizona Legislature in December 2020.
Ellis is also barred from practicing law in Colorado for three years. Other criminal charges related to the fake electors scheme have been filed in Michigan, Nevada, Georgia, and Wisconsin. The charges against 11 Republicans in Arizona, five lawyers connected to Trump, and two former Trump aides were brought in late April. President Joe Biden won Arizona by 10,457 votes.
Trump himself was not charged in the Arizona case but was referred to as an unindicted co-conspirator. The 11 people who claimed to be Arizona’s Republican electors signed a certificate saying Trump carried the state, which was later ignored by Congress and the National Archives. Ellis is the fourth defendant in the Georgia election case against Trump to enter into a plea deal.
