Former CEO of Overstock and election fraud conspiracy theorist Patrick Byrne made threatening comments towards law enforcement during an online forum on Thursday. Byrne stated that law enforcement would face “a piano wire and a blowtorch” if they did not drop a case against an ally accused of tampering with election equipment.
During the nearly three-hour-long event, Byrne repeated the threatening phrase multiple times, acknowledging that his words could be considered felonies. However, he later claimed that his comments were metaphorical and that he is committed to peace.
The event, titled “Cyber Crisis: Saving Tina Peters,” aimed to gather support for the former Mesa County clerk who is facing charges related to election tampering. Byrne accused law enforcement of treason and warned of possible retaliation if they did not drop the case.
In the past, Byrne has supported efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election, including funding partisan reviews in Arizona. He has also been involved in legal issues, including a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit filed against him by Dominion, the voting machine company.
His threatening remarks come at a time of heightened concerns about political violence following the 2020 election and the January 6 Capitol attack. Legal experts view Byrne’s language as serious and potentially criminal, especially given the specifics of the case he referenced during his comments. Law enforcement agencies are being urged to take such threats seriously and investigate the matter further.
