Gun violence has rocked Washington, D.C., as two people have been killed and nine others injured in less than 24 hours. Police are investigating to determine if any of the shootings are connected. The incidents occurred in various locations around the city, including Newcomb Street, Joliet Street, and Marion Barry Avenue. Three people were injured in these incidents, followed by another shooting that left three people injured in the 300 block of 37th Place. Just before 9:30 p.m., a triple shooting at 7th and O Streets resulted in one man dead and two others wounded. Police Chief Pamela Smith is leading the investigation and stated that detectives are looking into whether the same vehicle, a Silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, was used in both incidents.
Another shooting occurred around 1:45 a.m. Thursday in the southeast, resulting in a man being killed. A woman was also shot around 2 a.m. on Park Road but is expected to survive. Despite the surge in gun violence, no arrests have been made in any of the incidents. Smith condemned the shootings as “senseless violence” and assured the community that detectives are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. The incidents have sparked concerns about the rising gun violence in the nation’s capital, prompting a call for increased efforts to address the issue and prevent further tragedies.
