Memphis named as the top pick in the American Athletic Conference, with UTSA and Tulane close behind

Memphis has been chosen as the preseason favorite in the American Athletic Conference according to a vote of league media members. The Tigers received 23 out of 30 first-place votes, with UTSA and Tulane following in the rankings. Quarterback Seth Henigan returns for Memphis after a strong season last year, leading the team to average nearly 40 points and over 450 total yards per game.

UTSA will have to find a replacement for their former quarterback Frank Harris, while Tulane has a new coach in Jon Sumrall following the departure of Willie Fritz. Despite returning standout running back Makhi Hughes, Tulane will be without their former quarterback Michael Pratt, who was the top offensive player in the conference last year.

Defending AAC champions SMU, who went undefeated in conference play last season, have transitioned to the Atlantic Coast Conference. The league’s kickoff event featured coaches and players from all 14 teams, with Army, as a newcomer to the AAC, ranking fifth in the preseason poll. The upcoming season promises to be competitive as teams vie for the conference title.
