The 2024 Paris Olympics will see 10,000 athletes from over 200 countries competing in 32 sports, with breakdancing being introduced as a new event. The United States will be represented by 590 athletes who have dedicated countless hours to training for the chance to win gold.
Since 1896, staple sports such as swimming, track and field, gymnastics, fencing, and cycling have been featured at every Summer Games. Other sports like climbing, skateboarding, surfing, and 3×3 basketball were added in recent years.
Boxing, wrestling, and the pentathlon were part of the Ancient Olympic games, and while the rules have evolved, these sports continue to be a part of the modern Olympic program. More than 300 medals will be awarded during the Games, with the United States aiming to surpass the 113 medals won in Tokyo, including 39 gold medals.
Athletes such as Jesse Grupper in sport climbing, Lee Kiefer in fencing, Sunisa Lee in gymnastics, Beiwen Zhang in badminton, Morelle McCane in boxing, Nevin Harrison in canoe kayak, CJ Nickolas in taekwondo, Perry Baker in rugby sevens, and Gabby Thomas in track and field will be representing the United States in Paris.
The competition is expected to be fierce as athletes from around the world showcase their skills and athleticism on the world stage. Fans can look forward to exciting performances and unforgettable moments during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
