Republican National Convention Wraps Up with VP Nominee JD Vance Blending Working-Class Roots with Trump’s Populism
Former President Donald Trump is set to address the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee as he accepts the party’s presidential nomination on Thursday night. The convention has already seen JD Vance formally accept the VP nomination, using his speech to highlight his working-class Appalachian roots and align himself with Trump’s economic populism and nationalism.
The convention also included criticism of President Joe Biden’s handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, with families of soldiers killed in the attack blaming Biden. Additionally, President Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 and canceled a planned appearance at the UnidosUS conference in Las Vegas.
Trump, who was injured in an assassination attempt on Saturday, is expected to address the audience in light of his recent health scare. His wife Melania and daughter Ivanka will be in attendance but are not expected to speak at the event.
The convention has provided a platform for the GOP to rally their supporters and outline their vision for the future of the party. Trump’s speech is highly anticipated as he looks to energize his base and set the tone for the upcoming midterm elections.
