Pastor of Texas megachurch resigns due to ‘moral shortcomings’

Texas Megachurch Pastor Tony Cammarota Steps Down Due to “Moral Failures”

Tony Cammarota, a pastor at Stonebriar Community Church in Frisco, Texas, for 17 years, has resigned after admitting to “moral failures.” The church leadership has removed him from his position, citing his actions disqualifying him from serving as a pastor. The details of Cammarota’s actions were not disclosed in the church’s letter to congregants.

The Stonebriar Community Church urged its members not to speculate or spread rumors about the situation, warning against giving the devil an opportunity to cause further damage to the church. With over 11,000 congregants, the church did not provide further comments on the matter. Cammarota’s departure is part of a recent trend of megachurch pastors stepping down in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, including Tony Evans and Mike Buster.

Evans resigned after nearly 50 years at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, citing a lack of righteous judgment in his actions. Buster also resigned after 35 years at Prestonwood Baptist Church, maintaining his innocence. Additionally, Robert Morris of Gateway Church stepped down amid allegations of sexual assault dating back to when the victim was 12 years old.

The resignations of these pastors have shocked their congregations and raised questions about accountability within megachurches. Cammarota’s case serves as another reminder of the importance of transparency and honesty in spiritual leadership.
