Poll Finds Biden Has More Global Confidence Than Trump

A recent poll from the Pew Research Center has found that people in 34 countries have more confidence in President Joe Biden than his challenger in the 2024 election, former President Donald Trump. The poll revealed that a median of 43% in the surveyed countries trust Biden to do the right thing in world affairs, compared to 28% for Trump. This confidence in Biden comes as faith in U.S. democracy is declining, with only 21% of respondents believing it sets a good example for other nations.

The poll also indicated that confidence in Biden has dropped since his first year in office but remains higher than that of Trump. Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war received the lowest confidence ratings, while his handling of the war in Ukraine and China received more favorable responses. French President Emmanuel Macron received the highest level of confidence, just ahead of Biden, while Russian President Vladimir Putin received the lowest.

Even in the two countries where more confidence was expressed in Trump than Biden, such as Hungary, the support for him is not strong. Trump received poor assessments in Europe and Latin America, with only 17% expressing confidence in him in Tunisia. Overall, the poll suggests that while global confidence in Biden may be declining, it still exceeds that of Trump in most countries.
