A 21-year-old illegal immigrant from Turkey, Sakir Akkan, is facing charges for raping a 15-year-old girl in New York after threatening her with a pipe. Akkan was arrested in November 2023 at the U.S.-Mexico border, released into the interior, obtained a New Jersey driver’s license, and settled in Troy, New York before the incident. He forced the girl into his car, removed her clothes, and raped her despite her attempts to push him away. He has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree rape charge and is being held in an Albany jail without bail.
This case is part of a series of high-profile attacks on women and young girls by illegal immigrants across the country. Another illegal immigrant, Victor Martinez Hernandez from El Salvador, is facing charges of first-degree murder and rape for attacking a woman in Maryland. In a recent op-ed, former New York Lt. Gov. Betsy McCaughey warned about a “femicide” plague in the U.S. caused by the Biden administration’s failure to secure the southern border, allowing migrants to bring violence to neighborhoods.
The issue of attacks on women by illegal immigrants is not new, with evidence showing a pattern of violence along migration routes from Latin America to the U.S. border. The recent crimes have sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of communities across the country.
